A heat-stressed exhaust manifold, restored

The brief

A road-car exhaust manifold arrived dull, heat-discoloured and surface-corroded after years of hard use. The owner wanted it restored, and protected so it would stay that way, rather than returning to the same condition in another season.

What we did

We stripped and prepared the manifold back to clean metal, then coated, baked and polished it in a high-temperature ceramic finish. Ceramic is the right choice here: a manifold runs hot, and a high-temperature coating manages that heat rather than letting it discolour the surface or radiate into the engine bay.

The result

The manifold came back looking sharp and, more importantly, with lasting protection against heat and corrosion. It keeps heat in the system where it belongs, resists the discolouration that spoiled the original finish, and stands up to the conditions that wore it down the first time.
