General

What coating services does Powerkote Cape offer?
We apply specialist ceramic and protective coatings to metal parts that face heat, corrosion, wear or friction: thermal-barrier and heat-management coatings, corrosion-resistant finishes and low-friction coatings for automotive, industrial, marine, aviation, motorcycle and specialty work.
Is ceramic coating the same as powder coating, paint or plating?
No. Powder coating, paint and plating are surface finishes. Our ceramic coatings are thin, bonded to the metal and engineered to do a job: manage heat, resist corrosion or reduce wear. They are chosen for how the part performs, not just how it looks. We are not powder coaters, platers or painters.
How do I know which coating my part needs?
The part decides the coating. We look at what it is made from, where it works, how much heat it sees, and whether it faces salt, chemicals or abrasion. From there we recommend the coating that fits the job, matched to the application, so a part is never over-specified.
Can ceramic coatings be used on tight-tolerance parts?
Yes, that is a real advantage of a thin-film ceramic coating. It can protect threads, clearances and machined surfaces where thick paint or powder coating would interfere. We still assess every part first, and mask any area that must stay uncoated.
How do I get a quote for coating a part?
Send clear photos, rough dimensions, the material if you know it, and a line on where the part is used and whether the main problem is heat, corrosion, wear or appearance. We will tell you whether the part is suitable, what coating makes sense, and what the job is likely to cost.

Will a thermal coating improve performance?
Thermal coatings keep heat inside exhaust and engine components rather than radiating it into the engine bay, which supports better flow and protects nearby parts. The real-world gain depends on the part and the vehicle. We will tell you honestly what to expect for yours.
Is ceramic coating better than exhaust wrap?
They tackle exhaust heat in different ways. Wrap can cut radiant heat but tends to trap moisture and grime against the metal. A ceramic coating bonds to the part itself, adds corrosion resistance and leaves a cleaner, more durable finish: usually the better long-term choice for street and performance builds.
Does every part need ceramic?
No. Hot components like exhausts and engine parts need high-temperature ceramic. For parts that do not face extreme heat, we apply a premium durable finish instead. We match the coating to the application, so a part is never over-specified.
What colours and finishes are available?
For high-heat parts, engine components and exhaust headers, we offer black and natural silver. Where extreme heat protection isn't the priority, we offer a wide range of colour options, and can match specific shades where needed (conditions may apply). We prioritise matching the right coating to the job first; colour options follow from there.

What do industrial coatings protect against?

Do your coatings resist chemicals and industrial fluids?

Will a ceramic coating handle exhaust heat?
Yes. High-temperature ceramic is designed for exhausts, headers and silencers: it manages the heat these parts generate and resists the discolouration that ruins an untreated finish, so they keep performing and looking good.
Do I need to strip the bike before bringing parts in?
Yes, we generally need the loose component, not the whole motorcycle. Remove the part, drain any oils or fluids, and leave off rubber, plastic, seals and bearings unless we have agreed otherwise. If you are unsure, send photos first.

Will a coating stop saltwater corrosion?
A ceramic coating adds a tough, corrosion-resistant barrier that dramatically slows the rust and pitting saltwater causes. No coating makes metal indestructible, but the right one, properly applied, extends the life of parts that would otherwise corrode quickly.

Do you coat firearm components?
We coat suitable, legally held firearm components for corrosion resistance and finish durability, subject to assessment and applicable law. We limit the work to lawful surface finishing. We do not advise on or carry out performance or safety modifications.
